A Pair of Detentions in the Aftermath of Heathrow ‘Pepper Spray’ Attack
An additional two individuals are now in custody related to a theft at Heathrow Airport in which over twenty individuals sustained injuries by what is thought to be an irritant spray, according to law enforcement.
A man, 24, was taken into custody in the Lambeth area for suspected robbery and assault and a woman, 23 was arrested for suspected conspiring to commit a robbery. They both are still being held, the force said.
The arrests come after a probe into an assault at the multi-storey car park at Heathrow's Terminal 3 this past Sunday. Prior to the incident, two women had stolen from them their suitcases upon exiting a car park lift.
A three-year-old girl was one of the injured during the incident. A total of five individuals were taken to the hospital for medical care and were later released.
Police arrested a man in his thirties for suspected theft and assault near the location. He has since been released under investigation while inquiries continue.
Police were alerted at about 8:10 in the morning GMT after reports came in regarding several people injured by a noxious substance thought to be pepper spray.
The assault - an event that authorities stated was a standalone incident and not being treated as terrorism - resulted in train delays and the partial closure of the main airport tunnel and the Terminal 3 car park briefly.
